Over the weekend, Managing Editor Sayaka Matsuoka and Publisher Brian Clarey visited Chicago where they spent four days hanging out with dozens of other alternative newspaper publications from around the country.

Despite being probably the smallest paper in the organization, Triad City Beat was up for three awards and got Second, Third and an honorable mention for our pieces which were chosen as three of the 95 finalists out of the 560+ submissions! So we’re definitely punching above our weight class here and we’re proud to do the work here and are so thankful and grateful to have you all with us!

In the category for Special Vaccine Coverage, Sayaka Matsuoka won second place for her piece about how formerly vaccine-hesitant people changed their minds about getting the shot, which was published on Aug. 26, 2021. You can read the full piece here!
