Peni Candra Rini and Gusti Sudarta at Gallery5

It’s a happy hour show featuring renowned Indonesian singer, composer, and visiting Fulbright scholar Peni Candra Rini, a rare talent who we’re lucky to have in town for awhile. One night she’s at Carnegie Hall in New York with Kronos Quartet, another evening (like this one) at your favorite, old school Richmond firehouse. According to an event posting, she’ll be performing a concert of new music from Java, ranging from the traditional to “avant-rock compositions from her new album produced with members of Deerhoof.” She’ll be supported by Balinese master musician Gusti Sudarta and local Richmond musicians. 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $8. Bio Ritmo at the Broadberry

If you’ve lived in Richmond for any length of time, not much needs to be said about our own globally acclaimed legends of new school salsa. But if you like to move your hips and dance, Ritmo is your Friday night jam. Rei, Marlyse, Giustino and the rest of this veteran crew have got you. Tickets are $20. Doors at 7 p.m. show at 8 p.m. Tickets on sale now here.

Orville Peck and Marci at the National

The South African country artist with the baritone vocals, fly facial threads and Roy Orbison-like dramatic flare is back in RVA, continuing his tour for last year’s “Bronco.” As someone said recently in a Facebook meme, “not all rednecks are homophobic.” And the fact that an openly gay country musician is becoming a star in this historically conservative genre (signing with Columbia Records) is definitely a sign of progress. 8 p.m. www.thenationalva.com.

Swine and Brine at Ardent Craft Brewery

For more on the return of this popular Scott’s Addition outdoor party, which pairs Ardent’s terrific beers with “with food from a bevy of restaurants, such as Royal Pig, Stanley’s and Rappahannock Oyster Co and includes next door neighbor ZZQ and its newly opened Eazzy Burger,” check out our Short Order blog. Runs from noon to 8 p.m. Free entry. Drink tickets are $7, food prices vary.

Toward Space album release party with Broke Body and Sifter at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

Should be a celebratory evening at this album release party for Richmond’s own Toward Space, a trio that has built a loyal following for its homegrown rock with power pop sensibilities. The band will be playing its new, self-titled third album in its entirety (the last one had a great title, “Gently with a Chainsaw,” for you fans of the classic movie “Heathers”). Joined by the dark indie pop of Philly’s Broke Body and the harder sounding Sifter from RVA. 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free show.
