After 3.5 decades of local, national and international news consumption, I believe that people can be consciously or subconsciously perceived by a large swath of society as though they’re somehow disposable and, by extension, their suffering is somehow less worthy of external concern (perhaps something similar to how human smugglers perceive their cargo when choosing that most immoral line of business).

It is astonishingly atrocious that such a large number of human beings, however precious their souls, can be considered thus treated as though disposable, even to otherwise free, democratic and relatively civilized nations.
