Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders will go on a sales call to the Texas border this weekend, where she’s set to join 14 other Republican governors in peddling misinformation and fear to the American public.

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump is working hard to blow up a bipartisan plan on border security: Fixing the problem would take immigration off the table as an issue to be exploited for political gain.

Sanders has long made hay with the immigration issue. Nevermind that she’s governor of a state hundreds of miles from the nearest border entry point.

She sent 80 National Guard members to the border last summer at a price of $1.3 million, then traveled to the Rio Grande herself to do a live segment for Fox News. Last month she joined other Republican governors to publicly defend Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s use of razor wire to slice and dice brown people seeking a better life.

Expect more of the same at the press conference in Eagle Pass, set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

This wall-building grift Sanders is touting here is a fraudster’s dream. Just ask Trump advisor Steve Bannon, who raised $25 million with his “We Build the Wall” scam. Bannon is scheduled to stand trial for money laundering, conspiracy and fraud in May.

Speaking of grift, how much will this out-of-state publicity stunt 780 miles from home cost taxpayers? We will likely never know, thanks to Sanders’ chicanery in convincing state lawmakers that it presents a security threat to allow the public to know what her travels are costing us. Thanks to a recent law change, Sanders is free to dash off on taxpayer-funded campaign trips like this one to hobnob with fellow right-winger govs and try out anti-immigration talking points in hopes of winning Trump’s favor and the VP spot on his presidential ticket.
